It is one of the rivers that originate in the forested area of Casas Grandes and joins the Palanganas in the prairie to form the Casas Grandes River. Witness to the life and transit of the ancient inhabitants of Paquimé who moved to the Pacific to carry out their commercial exchanges, on its beautiful riverbank they built communities in which petroglyphs can be seen in the rocks. This river was also witness to some Apache raids and due to its crystalline waters in 1892 the anthropologist Carl Lumholtz took some photographs that were captured in his work El México Desconocido. On the Piedras Verdes River, multi-day expeditions are carried out, with distances between 15 and 55 kilometers. It is worth mentioning that on its banks, there are hot springs; a guide is required to make the crossing.
