A world heritage oasis

On the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2010, we will find this beautiful missionary town originally known as Valle de San Bartolomé. In the middle of the semi-arid plain, runs the Valle de Allende river, chosen by the Franciscans to establish a convent, it was equipped with a system of irrigation ditches that always bring spring water to the patios and orchards of the beautiful houses.

Some of History

Because it had fertile lands and safe water in its surroundings from the Ojos de Talamantes springs, numerous orchards of walnut trees and other fruits were planted, as well as corn, wheat and fodder for the growing livestock herd. There is no exact date of its foundation, but it is believed that it was between 1563 and 1570. Juan de Oñate left here in 1598 to found the oldest towns in the province of New Mexico.

With the abundant harvest of walnuts and other fruits, exquisite desserts, jellies, jams and empanadas are made. Traditional cuisine includes dried meat, beef stews with vegetables, and roasts with green and red chiles.

Heritage cultural

The temple of the Virgen del Rosario dates back to 1574, which is why it is considered the oldest in the state. In the church there is a small museum where canvases of great artistic value and wood carvings are preserved. Valle de Allende is also a protected area of monuments that includes the Sanctuary of Guadalupe, Urquidi House, the old customs house and the house that housed Benito Juárez during the French invasion.
